Recently, the renowned storage technology media outlet The SSD Review conducted a detailed evaluation of the 7.68TB capacity point of the Memblaze PBlaze7 7A40 enterprise SSD. The results showed that the PBlaze7 7A40 performed consistently across all tests, whether in 4K random read performance—reaching up to 3300K IOPS—or in 4K/8K random write and 128K sequential bandwidth, all of which met expectations. Ultimately, it earned the media's "Editor's Choice Award."

"When we started writing this review report, we predicted that the PBlaze7 7A40 Gen 5 Enterprise SSD was one of the few gems in the solid-state drive industry. By demonstrating its performance through this report, I think we have sufficiently proven that point."

—— The SSD Review

This review was conducted based on the Intel Xeon W7-2595X hardware platform. Before the testing began, the motherboard BIOS was updated to the latest version, and hyper-threading technology was disabled to avoid affecting results due to uneven CPU core loads. Before starting each test task, the SSD underwent a format operation, followed by two full-drive sequential writes and strict random data pre-conditioning according to the requirements of the random test projects to ensure a rigorous testing environment and reliable results.

The following are the test details (Note: All on-site photos of the test environment, test data, and performance charts in this article are from The SSD Review website).

Sequential Read/Write Performance Test

High Bandwidth Output, Consistently Stable Performance

In terms of 128K sequential writing, the PBlaze7 7A40 SSD was able to reach a peak write performance of 11.3GB/s at QD4. As the queue depth increased, the write performance stabilized at 11.2GB/s.

The PBlaze7 7A40 demonstrated sequential read performance of 6GB/s at QD1 and stabilized at 14.2GB/s at QD64, slightly exceeding the product's nominal value. It is worth noting that after reaching maximum bandwidth, even if the pressure was further increased, its performance curve remained flat and stable, demonstrating excellent predictability.

Random Access Performance Test

Excellent Steady-State Writing, Equally Outstanding Mixed Load

In the 4K random performance test, The SSD Review first pre-conditioned the SSD with 100% 4K random writes until it reached a steady state. The results showed that the PBlaze7 7A40 7.68TB maintained a stable 4K random write performance of 511K IOPS in steady state. During the formal testing phase, the SSD reached its peak performance at QD4 and remained stable at higher queue depths.

In the 4K random read test, the SSD performance broke through 3300K IOPS and was approximately 2950K IOPS at QD512.

Under mixed read/write scenarios, the PBlaze7 7A40 also performed exceptionally: peak performance reached 1065K IOPS in the 7:3 read/write ratio test; under a 50:50 load, performance was 801K IOPS, a result that is highly competitive for a 1DWPD product.

In addition, The SSD Review conducted 8K random performance tests. Due to space limitations, only part of the results are extracted here: 8K random writes reached 260K IOPS, and random reads were 1700K IOPS, similarly maintaining a balanced and stable performance.

Overall, the PBlaze7 7A40 PCIe 5.0 7.68TB enterprise SSD demonstrated impressive strength in both sequential read/write and steady-state random IOPS. Its low latency, high throughput, and stable performance curve fully reflect its competitiveness in the enterprise storage market.

As the media concluded: Great work Memblaze!

We would like to thank The SSD Review for providing detailed testing and professional interpretation, allowing more users to intuitively understand the outstanding performance of this "hidden gem." Memblaze will continue to break through in performance, reliability, and innovation to continuously bring more competitive storage products to the market.
